Albizia julibrissin (Silk Tree)

Description

 Common Name:

 

Silk Tree, Pink Mimosa.

 

Description:

 

A medium sized spreading tree with attractive fern like foliage.

 

Flower:

 

Masses of pink fluffy flowers that resemble bottlebrushes.

 

Size:

 

6m x 5m.

 

Growing Conditions:

 

Frost hardy but best in a warm, sheltered spot. Albizia can tolerate drought conditions once established.

 

Care:

 

Staking young plants and removing side shoots will encourage a central stem to help form a brilliant canopy.

 

Uses:

 

  • Great as a shade tree for the patio or lawn.
  • Can be grown in large containers.

Comments:

 

The spreading habit, fern like foliage and masses of fluffy pink flowers make this an easy choice as a shade tree.
