Common Name:
Panakenake, Creeping Pratia. Now known as Lobelia angulata.
Description:
A vigorous mat forming creeping with small green mossy like leaves.
Flower:
Masses of small white flowers totally smoother the plant for long periods. These are followed by red berries in autumn and winter.
Size:
2cm high with spreading habit.
Growing Conditions:
Pratia will happily grow in full sun but needs good water. It does best in semi-shade forming a neat weed suppressing mat.
Care:
Little care is required with this hardy native. As it is a quick grower you can avoid it taking over by cutting it back to size. Just use the spade and dig it out.
Uses:
· A stunning groundcover that quickly covers the required area. Under-plant trees or use to cover a shady area.
· Plant to spill over a retaining wall or bank.
· Useful as a container plant, hanging over the edge of the pot.
· Could be used as a lawn alternative in low traffic areas.
Comment:
A handy groundcover that can be forgiven its vigorous habit due to the flower and berry display. In sunny spots the growth will be tighter and ground hugging.
