Description:
A hardy compact native shrub that is admired for its strong foliage colour during winter.
Flower:
Small clusters of pale lilac flowers appear in summer.
Size:
50cm x 75cm
Growing Conditions:
Hebes are tough plants that will just about grow anywhere in any soil condition. To get the best from them though, they prefer to be planted in full sun (even if it is only half a day), in soil that is well drained.
Care:
Little care is needed except for an occasionally prune to keep tight and compact. A spray with a generally purpose garden spray will ensure the plant is healthy and free of pest and diseases.
Uses:
- An attractive container plant. Easy care and colourful. Plant with the purple foliaged groundcover Aceana or the blue-grey of Pimelia for a striking combination.
- Looks good when massed planted for a great show of colour. Will tolerant exposed and dry conditions, so a good choice as a cover for banks or hard to deal with areas.
- A useful rockery plant or in a modern garden with flaxes and grasses. Use a stone mulch to highlight the colour.
Comments:
Hebe ‘Red Edge’ has really cool foliage, as can be seen in the photos. It will fit into any garden style from coastal to modern to formal to cottage gardens.
