Common Name:
Milkweed, Spurge
Description:
A delightful mound forming plant with greyish-green foliage that is tipped with red growth.
Flower:
Masses of long flower bracts are lime green and produced through spring and summer.
Size:
60cm x 60cm
Growing Conditions:
Euphorbias are easy to grow but need a well draining position. They will grow in part shade but prefer a spot that receives full sun for part of the day.
Care:
Euphorbias are a hardy group of plants and need little care. Each season new growth will emerge from the clump base so you may wish to prune the old growth out. This will help keep the plant nice and tidy and compact. When cut Euphorbia produce a sticky milky sap that can irate skin and cause a rash, take precautions such as gloves before cutting.
Uses:
Wonderful filler for the front of the garden. It looks great when planted as a group as the form and the colour makes a great contrast. They work well in containers and can be used in rockeries or coastal gardens.
Comment:
The combination of the lime green flowers and the warm red leaf growth is very attractive and just one of the reasons why this is one of our favourites. It can be used as a neat foreground planting for flaxes and grasses or used with any of the other colourful perennials. The bright yellow of Coleonema ‘Sunset Gold’ would provide brilliant contrast, both in colour and texture.
